Our beloved friend and mentor Gusti Nordlund passed away suddenly on July 12th. Gusti was the one who gave the early Wentus Blues Band chances to perform in our hometown and he was truly one of our first inspirations. With his band Lena Maate (who was the first bluesband in Kokkola) they started the association for livemusic in Kokkola; KOKEMUS. He kept the livescene alive and arranged concerts with upcoming finnish pop & rockbands like Paul Oxleys Unit, Dave Lindholm and many more.. A real classic concert who people still talk about today was when Roomful Of Blues came to town with the legendary Ronnie Earl on guitar. One of our first performances was as support for Duke Robillard, and we were just teenagers then..
We thank you Gusti for how you planted the seed and gave us these chances. Therefore we will do our only official performance this year at the Gusti Memorial Concert Friday 15.11. The other bands performing at the Memorial Concert are Gustis old bands and friends; Gustis Blues Band, Leena Maate and his friends performing songs by Cornelis Vreeswijk. Rest in Peace.
